Keeping Schools Secure and Mentoring Students

As the amount of school-related shootings increases by the decade, the unfortunate need for more security throughout schools to counter these threats has become apparent. Many schools across the country elect to hire security guards or school resource officers to keep their halls safe and secure. As a result of this, increased interaction between students and security has become inevitable.

We know more than a majority of these interactions with students are completely harmless. However, the media tends to take an idea and run with it, oftentimes to an extreme. Because resource officers don’t generally have a fixed schedule or timeline that they are required to operate on within the school, they don’t have an established system that generates data for people to observe what most of their time is spent doing: mentoring.

Because of the absence of an established system, and with increased reporting on negative encounters with students, there is growing pressure for schools to phase out resource officers. Therein lies the problem; parents and those outside of the school district don’t/can’t see what goes on during the school day, and how officers are interacting with students. As expected, a majority of resource officers claim that very little, if any, of their time is spent having a problematic encounter with a student. Instead, much of their time is taken up mentoring and offering advice to students looking for guidance, which is typically not logged with administration.

Therefore, SafeHiring Solutions has created an app to eliminate the misconception about the activities of resource officers. Our progressive web application allows School Resource Officers to quickly capture all details of their day-to-day activities.

The SRO App:

  • Accessible, easy to use application to report all the work your SROs do daily

  • Secures your data for your use only

  • Designed to be used on a phone, tablet, or desktop

  • Generates a report of all the SRO activity that was completed that day, week, or month

SafeHiring Solutions strives to do the absolute best to keep our youth and students safe and healthy, and we understand how vital of a role SROs play in this. Along with keeping students safe, we want to recognize the important role that SROs can potentially play in their lives. Whether this includes just listening to students, offering advice, or simply having a conversation with a student to let them know somebody is there for them, SROs bring invaluable service to schools, on top of keeping them safe from internal and external threats.
